CHALLENGE THE CHEESEMONGER: The Cheese Society

Cheesemongers are the lifeblood of our industry, the link between cheesemakers and customers, so we’ve got our Chedditor-at-Large, Keith Kendrick to tap into their wisdom with another special order.

Lucie Nock from The Cheese Society, Lincoln

THE CHALLENGE

“I want to show off to friends whose idea of a cheeseboard comes from a supermarket in hard plastic packaging. What ‘real’ British cheeses should I impress them with on the Big Day?”

LUCIE’S RESPONSE

“Challenge accepted. Our National Treasures box is a perfect celebration of the best of English country cheeses that will impress your guests. It comprises five cheeses from smaller artisan makers: a well-balanced journey through some of our favourite territories and smaller, lesser-known dairies alongside the classics. These are cheeses that should be celebrated, all coming together with a jar of crunchy piccalilli made in Leicestershire plus seeded sourdough crackers made in Nottinghamshire. Phenomenal produce at its best.”

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

  • Keen’s Extra Mature Cheddar

  • Stichelton

  • Baron Bigod Brie

  • Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire

  • Swaledale Traditional

OUR CHEDDITOR-AT-LARGE’S VERDICT

“Blue, soft, crumbly and a couple of hard cheeses – what’s not to like? This is a great showcase of ‘real’ cheeses from around the nation. But what I love most, is the fact the selection fulfils what my guests will expect, but with exciting, conversation-starter surprises.”
